Courses Description

In this Module, you will deepen your understanding and appreciation of the Samoan language and culture. You will hone your speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills while exploring Samoa's rich traditions and history through engaging activities. You will explore various contexts of Tautua, its significant role in building communal relationships, and its significant purpose in the lives of individuals. 

Course Objectives:

  • Strengthen & Develop fluency and confidence in spoken Samoan through interactive exercises and discussions.
  • Enhance your comprehension skills by reading a variety of Samoan texts: historical and contemporary literature.
  • Improve your written Samoan through creative writing tasks and formal compositions.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of Samoan culture, including its history, customs, and social values.
  • Explore the concept of identity and how language shapes cultural expression.

Once a student makes their selections and confirms these, any changes must be accompanied by a letter of support from Whanau and are subject to available spaces in courses. 
All Junior Bilingual students must select the literacy and numeracy modules in the language of their pathway each trimester and one other integrated language module  (3 out of 4 of their modules must be bilingual).
All senior Bilingual students must take all modules available in the language of their pathway.
