Courses Description

Head of Pathway:

Moana spirit of female creatives; film directors, writers, poets and artists bring stories for our Va:Kaa.  Ignite the space between to receive and tell stories, show them; through written, spoken and visual words.

Through your personal journey, as writers of Moana: Chapter 1, you will don the cloak of writers yourself. Your destination? Publish and Print the KGC Anthology of Written Short texts.  You, together with your peers, will edit the Kelstonian Sisterhood anthology. 

Yes. This is a UE approved course  and it has a focus on reinforcing critical understanding and analysis of language through creativity and control.

We will explore how aspects and language found in short texts are used, as tools, to critically view and explain perspectives that shade the Big 3:

  1. The Human Condition

  2. Society

  3. and/or Wider Texts

A current of familiar, legendary and fresh language by female Moana/Pasifika creatives await.


TRIMESTER 1:  Short Film Directors/Anthologies:  Sima Urale, Matasila Freshwater, Nikki Siulepa  (3.9 Close Viewing)3cr

Speak to and examine the layers of meaning brought to screen and/or in their own creative process.  Relating life as narrative.  (3.5 Oral Text)3cr

Design Chapter 1 of your own novel as an open-ended short story. (Contributes to 3.4 folio)

Once a student makes their selections and confirms these, any changes must be accompanied by a letter of support from Whanau and are subject to available spaces in courses. 
All Junior Bilingual students must select the literacy and numeracy modules in the language of their pathway each trimester and one other integrated language module  (3 out of 4 of their modules must be bilingual).
All senior Bilingual students must take all modules available in the language of their pathway.
