Recommended Prior Learning

It is recommended, but not necessary, that you have done at least one of the Comm Central Modules: Present (Trimester 1) or Podcast (Trimester 2). 


The time has come to take all our research, reporting, and writing skills from the rest of the year and present it in a final report. 

What is a problem rangatahi o Aotearoa (the youth of New Zealand) face? And what are some solutions for that problem? Your topic of choice could be something you have already looked at this year, or you could pick something new to sink your journalist teeth into. This essay will go live on the Kelston Girls’ College blog at the end of the year to showcase your reporting abilities. 

So what does this course boil down to? One problem solving essay. 800 words. UE literacy. And the pride of seeing your name alongside a published piece of work. 


Taking a full year of Comms Central will not give you a UE approved subject of 14 credits in one subject (because it is a mix of english and media studies) but it will give you UE literacy. This module gives 6 UE reading credits.

Once a student makes their selections and confirms these, any changes must be accompanied by a letter of support from Whanau and are subject to available spaces in courses. 

All Junior Bilingual students must select the literacy and numeracy modules in the language of their pathway each trimester and one other integrated language module  (3 out of 4 of their modules must be bilingual).

All senior Bilingual students must take all modules available in the language of their pathway.
