Courses Description

The final course for English will be determined once the student numbers and requirements have been finalised. 

3 Possible English courses will be offered in YEAR 13.

Option 1: COMMS ENGLISH (20 credits)

  • Taking this course for the year will offer UE literacy.

  • This subject WILL NOT be a University Approved subject.

  • Combination of English and Media Studies Standards.

  • All the standards done across the whole year are shown on this module
  • You will do one type of English in this line - Comms, Internal, or External. No Mixing between trimesters


Comms Central is all about the English for the real world. The TV shows you watch, the movies you enjoy, the music videos you have on repeat. We're talking about all of it in the Kelston Magazine "Kelston Korero" and on the KelPod Podcasting Network.

We endeavour to run all courses but are subject to minimise class sizes. Maximum class sizes apply. Once a course is full alternative selections are needed.

Course context or content may change by the start of the year.

Once a student makes their selections and confirms these, any changes must be accompanied by a letter of support from Whanau and are subject to available spaces in courses. 

All Junior Bilingual students must select the literacy and numeracy modules in the language of their pathway each trimester and one other integrated language module  (3 out of 4 of their modules must be bilingual).

All senior Bilingual students must take all modules available in the language of their pathway.
