Courses Description

Students will study the history of Kelston and the forces that influenced it:

  • Pacific migration and the settling of Tāmaki Makaurau by Māori 
  • Te Kawerau ā Maki history (including a Te Henga trip)
  • Colonisation
  • 20th Century immigration, including focus on the ways that globalisation and capitalism shaped Kelston
  • Pacific and Asian immigrant stories

Students will choose an immigration story of one group of people who have settled this rohe.

They will research the forces that brought them here, and identify one person to interview as a primary source.

You will like this course if you want to deepen your understanding of how history has shaped your whānau and our community. Students present their work visually at Learning Showcase.

Once a student makes their selections and confirms these, any changes must be accompanied by a letter of support from Whanau and are subject to available spaces in courses. 
All Junior Bilingual students must select the literacy and numeracy modules in the language of their pathway each trimester and one other integrated language module  (3 out of 4 of their modules must be bilingual).
All senior Bilingual students must take all modules available in the language of their pathway.
