Have you ever wondered how your ancestors knew when to plant or fish?

This course will take you on a journey through the Tongan night sky, using the moon and stars as your guide! You'll learn the secrets of Māhina Faka-Tonga - the Traditional Tongan Calendar, understanding when to grow crops and catch the most fish.

But that's not all! We'll also explore:

  • Seasons: Discover why we have hot and cold times throughout the year, and learn the best plants to grow in each season!
  • Moonlight: Unravel the mysteries of the moon's phases and how they influence life on Earth.
  • Astronomy: Learn the difference between a month and a year, and explore the reasons behind our amazing day and night cycle!

This course is packed with fun activities and cool facts that will turn you into a stargazing expert!  Are you ready to learn from the wisdom of the Tongan sky?

But wait, there’s more! This course also covers some amazing science concepts,  like food chains, energy flow, and even the building blocks of matter – atoms!

So, if you're curious about the world around you and want to learn from Tongan traditions, this course is for you!

Once a student makes their selections and confirms these, any changes must be accompanied by a letter of support from Whanau and are subject to available spaces in courses. 

All Junior Bilingual students must select the literacy and numeracy modules in the language of their pathway each trimester and one other integrated language module  (3 out of 4 of their modules must be bilingual).

All senior Bilingual students must take all modules available in the language of their pathway.
