Courses Description

Have you ever wondered why the waves crash wild on the shore, or how Maui slowed the sun? 

The answers are hidden in amazing stories passed down for generations by our Tongan ancestors. These stories, called Fananga, are bursting with adventures, funny characters, and powerful lessons.

By diving into Fananga, you'll be like a Tongan explorer, discovering faraway lands and meeting giants, shape-shifters, and even gods! Imagine learning the secret Tongan language they speak, or understanding the meaning behind special Tongan knots. You'll be strengthening your communication skills and becoming a true master of your cultural heritage.

Fananga are more than just stories – they're the keys to unlocking the knowledge of your ancestors. So, open a book, ask your grandparents a question, and embark on a journey through the wonders of Tongan myths and legends! Tui pea feinga ki ai– believe and learn!

We endeavour to run all courses but are subject to minimise class sizes. Maximum class sizes apply. Once a course is full alternative selections are needed.

Course context or content may change by the start of the year.

Once a student makes their selections and confirms these, any changes must be accompanied by a letter of support from Whanau and are subject to available spaces in courses. 

All Junior Bilingual students must select the literacy and numeracy modules in the language of their pathway each trimester and one other integrated language module  (3 out of 4 of their modules must be bilingual).

All senior Bilingual students must take all modules available in the language of their pathway.
