Ngā Whetū - Physics
Courses Description
Head of Pathway:
“Ka kōrekoreko ōku karu i te tini o ngā whetū i tuarangi.”
“My eyes are dazzled by the multitude of stars in space.”
Space is cool.
This module is a celebration of reflecting on the stars and beauty above and among us. We will learn about tūrama (light) and hou (sound).
We will learn about ngā whetū - the stars. How do they power life on earth, how do we know information about them, how do they burn?
We will learn about tūrama (light) and its tūhāhā (unique) nature of being both a wave and a particle.
We will learn about hou (sound) and musical instruments. How do musical notes and harmonies work?
This will cover NCEA level 3 waves (4 credit ext) and NCEA level 3 Nuclear physics (3 credit int). It is an accessible class for anyone, whether you are a little bit into physics, or a whole lot into physics.
Join this class - you’re a star!
Recommended Prior Learning
Nope. This is a pretty open entry physics course.
L2 physics is useful
Confident in maths
Pathway
Waves and Nuclear Physics are both useful for health sciences. This is also necessary for engineering students. This is also a cool subject for anyone interested in space, or the history of science.
