Dance is a holistic experience which links the mind, body, and emotions – integrating thinking, moving, and feeling this links well with Health which covers key concepts of hauora and well being.

Let’s Move It will involve students taking action to enhance an aspect of well being around a health issue. Students will then use the context of this learning to choreograph a group dance based on the health issue.


Pathway

If students take this modules which modules will they be well set up for in the future. What careers pathway will it help them follow?

In Dance, learners explore and acquire transferable knowledge, skills and dispositions. This is a holistic process not limited to physicality and movement.
These transferable attributes include:
-cognitive and critical thinking
-working effectively individually and collaborating in teams
-creative problem solving abilities
-Self confidence and resilience
-Recognising and respecting diverse viewpoints
-Valuing others skills, cultures and contexts.

The knowledge and experiences that students achieve through their engagement with Health can lead to a wide range of pathways.

The health sector, such as:
-care, support, and rehabilitation of people
-diagnosing and treating people
-health promotion and advice
-medical research and testing
-providing technical support and equipment to healthcare professionals.

Community services, such as:
-working with people of different ages, life stages, abilities, and cultures
-counselling and therapy
-helping people with personal development and life decisions
-community support and care.

The science sector, such as:
-analysing and interpreting results and data related to health and wellbeing
-research, investigation, and experiments into an area of health or nutrition science.

Management and consulting, such as:
-the recruitment, training, and development of staff in any health- or wellbeing-related workplace
-health and/or wellbeing marketing and communications.

Education, such as:
-helping children, young people, or adults learn about health and wellbeing
-planning and teaching programmes and classes about health and wellbeing.

Government and law, such as:
-development of policies and regulations related to health and wellbeing
-writing, researching, analysing, and evaluating information about health and wellbeing.

Once a student makes their selections and confirms these, any changes must be accompanied by a letter of support from Whanau and are subject to available spaces in courses. 

All Junior Bilingual students must select the literacy and numeracy modules in the language of their pathway each trimester and one other integrated language module  (3 out of 4 of their modules must be bilingual).

All senior Bilingual students must take all modules available in the language of their pathway.
