Courses Description

This course delves deeper into the Samoan language and culture, focusing on the interconnectedness of language and island life. Students will develop their communicative competence in Gagana Samoa through exploring various aspects of Samoan society, history, and environment. Through engaging activities and authentic language use, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of Samoan life and culture while honing their language skills.

Course Objectives:

  • Enhance students’ proficiency in spoken and written Gagana Samoa
  • Develop cultural understanding and appreciation of Samoan values
  • Explore the role of language in shaping Samoan identity and cultural context such
  • Analyze and respond critically to contemporary issues facing Samoa and relevant events or experiences that the Gagana Sāmoa speaking communities are involved in.

By achieving this Year 11 Samoan language Module, students will develop a strong foundation in Samoan culture, enabling them to engage meaningfully with the Samoan community and contribute positively to society.

All Junior Bilingual students must select the literacy and numeracy modules in the language of their pathway each trimester and one other integrated language module  (3 out of 4 of their modules must be bilingual).

All senior Bilingual students must take all modules available in the language of their pathway.
